OS support is ending on the 14th of July 2015
This means no further patches or security updates.
Is your organisation ready? Did you migrate to a new solution?
Let’s talk numbers
- 63% of businesses are still running Windows Server 2003
- 81% are planning to migrate to a new solution before the summer’s deadline
- Businesses worldwide run an estimated 23.8 million physical and virtual instances of Windows Server 2003 (data released by Microsoft in July 2014)
What are the risks of not upgrading?
- Cybersecurity dangers, such as malicious attacks or electronic data loss
- Software and hardware compatibility issues
- Compliance and regulatory issues
- No standard MS Support
What should you be running now?
Unless you have a special software or technical requirement (e.g. legacy applications), there is no good reason and no advantages in upgrading to Windows Server 2008 R2 these days.
Windows Server 2012 is leagues ahead of the latter as far as stability, performance, resource usage, and other, such as Hyper-V Replica, clustering, and related functions.
There are also new features such as backup & recover, new server manager, not to mention the opportunity to modernise systems and create a more efficient and well-run IT estate.
How long it takes to migrate?
Depending on how big your hardware estate and how many applications are running, the migration process might take months… so it’s never too early to plan – you should not wait any longer!
