It is a wise idea to prepare a checklist to go through a few days before the scheduled migration date.
As you are getting close to zero hour, your workload increases, you are busy chasing everyone, putting together the last pieces of the puzzle and chances are you will miss out on something.
Such a mistake can cost you a lot: it can disrupt and undermine the success of the project altogether.
Hence, to avoid nasty surprises, make sure your checklist includes:
- Change management approval signed off
- Batches – does anything need to be kept on hold during the move?
- Backup requirements – are the new servers already configured?
- Monitoring requirements – is the monitoring team aware of the change?
- Scheduled resources (online and on call numbers) – collect as many phone numbers as possible!
- Business and Third Party stakeholders have been informed about the move
- Backout plan agreed
- Testers aligned
