In this article I wanted to share with you some of the most common migration issues we recently encountered on a large scale data center consolidation project.
Keep in mind that the below are all execution related issues, nothing to do with pre-migration and preparation.
I am talking about the migration event itself, when the VMs are being copied over, network cutover and functional testing take place in the target DCs.
- Access issues and credentials not working, users locked out and keyboard problems
- Network: DNS, IP settings, Internet facing applications not working
- Firewall rules missing, rules not imported correctly
- Replication (V2V) process fails or cancelled: VM has to be replicated again
- Storage and disk space
